Located 33 km east of Maputo, Inhaca Island is a subtropical island measuring approximately 12 km by 7 km. It is believed that Vasco da Gama sighted the island in 1497/98.

The island served as a trading post in the 1500s, mainly for the ivory trade. One of its most interesting features during Portuguese rule was its reputation as a refuge for shipwrecked mariners traveling north along the coast.

Portuguese Island, located approximately 3 km from Inhaca Island, is a deserted island accessible by a 10–15 minute boat ride. Picnic lunches can be arranged through Inhaca Lodge. The island boasts beautiful beaches and calm lagoons ideal for various water sports and relaxation.

Swaziland’s history is surprisingly long and fascinating. Artifacts dating back over 200,000 years and rock paintings from approximately 25,000 BC have been discovered. The earliest inhabitants, the Khoisan hunter-gatherers, were later displaced by Bantu tribes migrating from the Great Lakes region during the 15th and 16th centuries.

In modern history, following the death of King Mswati II in 1982, the Great Council of State selected a 14-year-old prince as his successor. He later completed his education at Sherborne School in England and was crowned King Mswati III on 25 April 1986 at the age of 18 years and 6 days. He rules jointly with his mother, the Ndlovukati (“Great She-Elephant”).
