Special Nature Reserve-
Maputo National Park is an essential component of the Lubombo Transfrontier Conservation and Resource Area as it enables linkages between a mosaic of marine, coastal, and inland components with important conservation value and excellent potential for high-value tourism. The reserve combines lakes, wetlands, swamp forests, grasslands, and mangrove forests with a pristine coastline that lies within the Maputaland Centre of Endemism.
Measuring approximately 1, 700 km², Maputo National Park forms a central part of the Usuthu-Tembe-Futi TFCA that links the reserve up with Tembe Elephant Park in South Africa via the Futi Corridor. It also includes the Ponta do Ouro-Kosi Bay Transfrontier Conservation Area, linking up with South Africa’s iSimangaliso Wetland Park, a World Heritage Site.
Peace Parks has been supporting the development of Maputo National Park since 2002.
In 2018, we signed a partnership agreement with Mozambique’s National Administration of Conservation Areas (ANAC) to jointly develop Maputo Special and Ponta do Ouro Partial Marine reserve according to a strategic business plan, with Peace Parks providing technical and financial support for conservation and tourism development activities. In December 2021, the Government of Mozambique officially declared the joining of these two areas into the new Maputo National Park.
Day 1. Arrival - All Meals Included!
Maputo International Airport also known as Mavalane International Airport, formerly Lourenço Marques Airport, arrives in Mozambique and is transferred to a hotel.
Overnight at Maputo Southern Sun Hotel.
Day 2. Maputo Special Reserve - Maputo Game Drive - All Meals Included!
After a very early breakfast viewing of Maputo Special Reserve - Maputo Game Drive, in a 4x4 vehicle, a packed lunch en route, or a late lunch at Anvil Bay and afternoon at leisure.
Overnight at Anvil Bay Resort.
Day 3. City Tour - All Meals Included!
Depart after breakfast and visit- at @08:30am, places to visit include Central Market + Train Station + Fortress + Iron House + Natural History Museum + Fish Market + Craft Market + Traditional Dancing Performance.
Overnight at Maputo Southern Sun Hotel.
Day 4. Departure - All Meals Included!
Depart after breakfast for the airport.
